An Introduction to the C-FLUOR Logger
February 22, 2021miniDOT® Logger Basic Operations and Anti-Fouling Options
June 15, 2021PME is excited to announce the arrival of our all-new product, the microDOT sensor, which is adapted from the miniDOT® Logger specifically to meet our customers’ rigorous research needs. After receiving multiple requests for a smaller version of the popular miniDOT® Logger we started research and development in order to meet those needs. The microDOT is a low-power, robust sensor that maintains the same accuracy and long-term stability as the miniDOT.
The microDOT at Work
The microDOT sensor was recently used in a project by Caribbean Wind, LLC and Soundnine Inc. in the Chesapeake Bay. The goal of the project was to monitor and collect data on the hypoxic zones that form in the bay during the summer. A variety of factors including pollution, increased nitrogen levels, and agricultural runoff result in excess nutrients that promote the growth of harmful algae which is consumed by bacteria when it dies. The bacteria also consume dissolved oxygen from the water, decreasing the available dissolved oxygen for fish, oysters, crabs, and other marine life.
The Chesapeake Bay Trust (CBT) requested proposals for cost-efficient, real-time, constant dissolved oxygen monitoring solutions. Doug Wilson at Caribbean Wind, LLC recruited Soundnine Inc.’s new conductivity, temperature, and depth (CTD) sensor and PME’s microDOT sensor to create a solution. Soundnine’s CTD sensor was integrated with the microDOT and mounted below Soundnine’s Ultibuoy, which has an integrated controller, telemetry, and inductive communications. This collaboration provided a cost-effective solution for the CBT. Read more here about how the microDOT sensor is being used in the field.
The microDOT: A Quick Overview
The microDOT sensor requires less calibration than other comparable sensors and is ideal for a variety of research and monitoring applications. Its smaller size and lower power requirements make it easier to combine with other instruments for complex research projects. Similar to the miniDOT, the microDOT is incredibly robust, compact, accurate, and affordable.
